Tues, July 9 – Day 12 WEDDING!!!!

Mike and I got married!!!

We decided a couple of days ago to have our wedding at CK’s house in Stung Meanchey. It just felt like the right place. They are all amazing people, and we have grown to love all of them. Yesterday we pre-ordered pizza and cake. We also had our picture taken in traditional Cambodian/Khmer attire. It was a lot of fun! You can see our picture enlarged in the photos. We bought Mike’s shirt and our flowers from the market. No wedding is complete without a Lotus bouquet, daisies, and rose & jasmine petals!

CK and the other ladies decorated the courtyard with balloons and branches from their palm tree. When we arrived music was playing, kids were dancing, and people were coming out of their homes to check out the festivities. The kids lined up with flower petals in hand. Mike and I walked down the “aisle” hand in hand as the kids pelted us with the flowers.

We wanted to incorporate both American and Cambodian wedding traditions, so when we arrived at the front we circled our cake table three times. Eric said a few words, as our officiant, while CK translated. Mike also said a few words from the heart, then we lit candles, made a wish, and blew them out!

The ladies made us rings that we exchanged, and finally the kiss sealed the deal! We had our first dance and pizza was served. Most of the people were trying pizza for the first time. They definitely loved the cake. Who doesn’t love wedding cake!

It was a wonderful night! We danced and laughed with all of the kids. CK is such a trooper to let us use her house and help with everything. We will be getting footage from the videographer soon so stay tuned!!!
